To Be Free

Thailand's rebel female Buddhist monks defy traditionSo this is what it feels like

—to be free.

Forever free

from playing the mortar

to my crooked husband’s

crooked little pestle.

Enough.     For my mother.     For my daughters.

For all the daughters I might have had.

The cycle ends here.

—Bhikshuni Mutta, Therigatha

What a beauty! Up to this point I wasn’t aware of The Therigatha at all. I discover so many gems in your blog. Thank you for that.
