Purity, Peace, and Contentment

Ippen_Shonin_(Kyushu_National_Museum)If your mind is harmonious, you can attain the Way.

If you are passionate about the Way,

your passion will tire out your body;

and if your body is tired, your mind will become afflicted.

If your mind becomes afflicted, you will retreat from practice.

If you retreat from practice, your offenses will certainly increase.

You need only cultivate purity, peace, and contentment,

and you will not lose the Way.

—Buddha Shakyamuni, Sutra in 42 Sections
