For when you are developing the mind of good will,

ill-will will be abandoned.

Develop the mind of compassion.

For when you are developing the mind of compassion,

cruelty will be abandoned.

Develop the mind of appreciation.

For when you are developing the mind of appreciation,

resentment will be abandoned.

Develop the mind of equanimity.

For when you are developing the mind of equanimity,

irritation will be abandoned.
