Although I am constantly reborn, I am never the same person, and those accumulated experiences are not precisely ‘mine’ ―they are a part of the flux of existence, the mental continuum, but they are not ‘me’.
‘I’ have not lived many lives. It is more accurate to say that life has lived ―’I’ am merely an imputed identity, a fiction. The person who had those experiences is insubstantial, dependent, and impermanent. The person who had those experiences is another person. That person is not me.
I was not ‘there’ then, just as I am not ‘here’ now. I was not, am not, and will not be a separate being. If I am something, I am flow, I am experience, I am perspective.
Today’s attachments, just like yesterday’s, lack a real foundation. Those stored experiences are just that ―a collection; they are not a being, an entity. They are not ‘me’.
I am flow experiencing pain and joy.
I struggled with this concept for a while. Thanks for a great explanation!
I once read “Never think you HAVE a life. Just think you ARE life.” Very nice summary of not taking life to personally. Bursting the bubble every second! om shanti, cc
Yikes!
This is what rebirth I was looking for
Thank you, PKL
