Are You Free?

freedom-cage1We usually have a very negative concept of freedom. We think that freedom consists in having no one tell us what we can and cannot do. However, freedom means nothing without the capacity to satisfy our needs and attain happiness.

Who is free, those who fall down the precipice because they will not listen to multiple warnings, or those who avoid danger? Who is free, those who must endure the consequences of their unwholesome acts, or those who enjoy the fruits of their virtue? Who is free, those who cannot distinguish the causes of suffering from the causes of happiness, or those who opt consistently for the causes of happiness?

Are you free?
