Why We Offer Our Food

Mindful-EatingOffering our food is an effective technique for the gradual transformation of the physical body into an instrument of our higher aspirations.

As we replace the old body with the offered substances, we develop a physical form informed by our aspirations. As we dedicate our food, we remember our purpose to attain perfect enlightenment to benefit all beings.

This practice has also helped me look deeply into the source of food. Offering gratiude to the multitude of all beings who make a meal possible is another way to live in “the great expanse” with awareness.
Transform the body…transform the mind. Thank you. cc

I am starting to really look at food differently. I have offered it for along time but now I have an even deeper understanding and aspiration…We shall see where this leads…

Tashi, how exactly do we offer our food? My recent habit is to silently recent a mantra. What else? Can you explain a bit more?

    • Tashi Nyima says:

You can use the dedication prayer, “May all be free from suffering and the causes of suffering….” , recite mantra, or recite a Meal Prayer:
Reverence to the Guru, the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha! May I receive this nourishment in health, with a mind free from wrong views and afflicted emotions. May it lead me to the union of wisdom and compassion, for the sake of all beings.
