Good Conduct

1554339_777016105648460_1441417562_nThis is the way of life of a good householder disciple.

Laying aside all violence, one does not kill a living creature,

nor cause to kill, nor allow others to kill.

One deliberately avoids taking anything which has not been freely given;

neither does one cause to steal, nor allow others to steal.

One does not transgress against another’s spouse.

One neither speaks falsely, nor cause others to speak falsely,

deceive, or pretend, but avoids all untruth.

One avoids intoxication, does not cause or allowed intoxication in others,

since intoxication causes carelessness.

—Buddha Shakyamuni, Kshudraka Nikaya
