Uniting the Recollection of the Buddha and Guru Yoga

keishun-amida-namo gurave

On the level of ultimate truth, free of going, coming, and abiding,

beyond conventional form, pervading all directions and times,

the best, the original condition of all phenomena,

I go to the Truth Form of the Buddha for refuge.

Reaching to the limits of space, sentient beings are like illusions

—a mere fictional appearance where, once disabused of it,

a single, same-tasting wisdom can be formulated by

the recollection of the Buddha.

Buddha, Bhagavan, Tathagata, Arhant

fully accomplished Buddha,

having the pure view and the right conduct,

the world-knower, leader who disciplines all beings,

none-higher, teacher of gods and men,

this very Lord is Buddha Shakyamuni.

That one recollected as the best Conqueror,

Victor over the four enemies, Ancient,

the ultimate mode of existence, unerring,

is the One who overcomes affliction and its careless production.

You cleanse away all moral faults,

in all knowledge the knower, knowing the three times in all their excellent fullness,

abandoning illusion, reaching to the limits of space.

You have accomplished the best means, and obtained the highest end.

No one is greater than or equal to you.

Knowing evil actions and pain, the extreme of cyclic birth,

having the means to discipline all sentient beings,

You perform actions that show the path of liberation to all.

Like the Truth Form of all Buddhas,

continuing unchanged, possessing all virtues,

free from stain from the start,

You, the Liberator, dwell eternally,

pervading conventional and ultimate reality.

Always inaccessible to all conceptual viewpoints,

in me this very Truth Body of the Conqueror dwells.

Just as a flower has a dance and a flower has a smell,

so also the two Form Bodies are not separate from Truth.

This very one is the holy Root Guru.

Radiant Guru Buddha Bhagavan,

singularity of the Truth Body, equal in extent to space,

I pray, give me your blessing.

This is the True Self of all phenomena, the primordial wisdom,

the Radiant Guru’s best heart, the Truth Form.

All Buddhas same-tasting, non-dual,

I raise my prayer to Guru Dharmakaya.

Discriminations, machinations, and elaborations are powerless.

The one who disciplines shows the body of Amideva,

and the Form Body arises in the shape of a holy Noble Friend.

To you who are the Vajra-Holder’s power, I pray.

Five families of Conquerors, originally limitless, spontaneously present,

appear otherwise, by the five aggregate mode, for the benefit of living beings.

Liberation that disciplines the aggregates, liberates all.

To you, best aggregate, empty of other, I pray.

To ultimate reality, primordially the One Come Thus,

the union of wisdom and compassion, all Protectors,

to the discipline using the four elements and the six senses,

and to the Teacher of that discipline, I pray.

None other than the True Self of all, primordial wisdom,

free of concept, this Truth Body is space-pervading.

Dear Dharma Lord, to your heart, your Vajra-Holder power, I pray.

Absolute truth is originally self-arising as the three levels of existence.

As the face of appearances to be tamed, that existence is all glowing appearance.

Not without truth, its taming makes for a perpetually blessed happiness.

To you whose activities are spontaneously present

and simultaneously accomplished, I pray.

Guru, you are the True Self of the whole standing and moving world;

you are the reality of all the Buddhas of the three times and the ten directions.

May you who dwell as the heart essence of all living beings

bless me with manifest understanding.
