Five Mental Corruptions

budstaThere are the five corruptions of the mind,

on account of which the mind is not flexible,

controlled, or luminous,

but fragile and lacking in the concentration

which leads to the removal of impurities.

And, which are those five?

Sensual desire, aversion, lethargy and somnolence,

worry and guilt, and doubt.

—Buddha Shakyamuni, Upakkilesa Sutta
