Cultivate the Four Immeasurables

DolBuddhaCultivate the Four Immeasurables of equanimity, love, compassion, and rejoicing by progressing through four levels of commitment:

  1. reflect on how wonderful it would be if all beings without exception (equanimity) were to be happy (love), free of suffering (compassion), and enjoy the fruits of their accumulated merit uninterruptedly (rejoicing);
  2. generate the strong intention that all beings be happy and free of suffering, and enjoy the fruits of their accumulated merit;
  3. assume personal responsibility for helping all beings to be happy and free of suffering, and enjoying the fruits of their accumulated merit; and
  4. request the blessings of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas to assist you in helping all beings to be happy and free of suffering, and enjoy the fruits of their accumulated merit.
