If others are triumphant, that is my prayer.
If I am defeated, that is also my prayer.
In front, behind, above, below, right, left
—any place is the right place for practice.
Bless me to think of myself less!
If others are happy, they are worthy of happiness.
If they are learned, beautiful, rich,
famed, powerful, and sober,
bless me to wish their splendor to increase!
Why should others be burdened with my likes and dislikes,
my pleasure or displeasure at each contact?
Exposing my formations is but a cause for shame!
Bless me to remain even.
When I practice the Dharma, I benefit myself.
As I help others, I am helped.
Why expect added recompense?
Bless me to never wish for gratitude or glory!
