Four Sets of Three

jonangboudhanathI bow to the Lord of Compassion!

It is difficult to recognize when afflicted emotions arise;

it is difficult to disrupt them;

it is difficult to allow them to self-liberate—

Bless me to overcome these three!

Deep hearing of the Dharma,

a virtuous mind informed by wisdom,

and enthusiastic effort—

Bless me to cultivate these three!

Devotion toward my teachers,

constant joy in cultivation,

and the wish to help all sentient beings—

Bless me to never let these three diminish!

Body, speech, and mind centered and aligned;

study, contemplation, meditation;

right thought, right speech, right conduct—

Bless me to keep these three inseparable!

Mind Training 43 – 46: Four Sets of Three

Train in the three difficulties.

Take on the three principal causes.

Pay heed that the three never wane.

Keep the three inseparable.
