Teachings point to the truth, but are not The Truth.
There can be various maps that guide us to our destination —some will be more or less exact than others— but none of them IS the destination. We cannot set foot on the map and be there, nor should we believe we have arrived merely because we hold the map.
The map of reality that Buddhism presents to us is very clear and detailed, and facilitates our traversing the Great Middle Way, but we do not claim that all other maps are necessarily false.
