Bodhichitta, the mind of enlightenment

shinran-statueBodhichitta, the mind of enlightenment, is no other than the mind that makes beings desire to attain enlightenment.

The mind desirous of enlightenment is no other than the mind that works for the universal deliverance of all beings.

The mind that works for the deliverance of all beings is no other than the desire to take in all beings and make them attain birth in the Pure Land.

Therefore, those who desire to be born in the Pure Land of Peace and Bliss must awaken the mind of enlightenment.

—Shinran Shonin, Kyogoshinsho
