Bits of Rubble Turned into Gold

Buddha Amideva, in his Bodhisattva stage,

Made the universal Vow:

When beings hear my Name and think of me,

I will come to take them to my land.

I shall not discriminate at all

Between the poor and the rich and wellborn.

I shall not distinguish

Between the inferior and the highly gifted.

I shall not favor

The learned and those upholding pure precepts.

I shall not reject those who break vows

And whose evil karma is profound.

When beings just turn about at heart

And often recite my Name,

It is as if bits of rubble were turned into gold.
