This is auspicious, 1-4

Many divine and human beings

Have pondered what are those blessings

Which they hope will bring them good fortune:

Declare to them, Lord, what is auspicious.

The Blessed One replied:

Not to associate with fools,

But to associate with the wise

And to honor those worthy of honor

—This is auspicious.

Living in a suitable location,

Good deeds as your foundation,

To set oneself in the right course

—This is auspicious.

Great learning and skill in work,

A highly trained discipline,

And well-spoken speech

—This is auspicious.

—Buddha Shakyamuni, Mangala Sutra
