“Only this is true; all else is wrong.”

Why is it that philosophers argue? It is because of attachment to views, adherence to views, addiction to views, obsession with views, and holding firmly to views that philosophers argue.

—Buddha Shakyamuni, Anguttara Nikaya

If one approves of something, receives an oral tradition, reaches a conclusion based on reasoned cogitation, accepts a view as a result of pondering, one preserves the truth by saying: “The view that I accept is thus”. One does not yet come to the definite conclusion: “Only this is true; all else is wrong”.

—Buddha Shakyamuni, Canki sutta
