Secrets of Mantra Yoga

The effectiveness of mantra does not reside in magical powers inherent in the sound itself, in perfect enunciation of the distinct syllables, nor in strict ritual observances during recitation.

Once the body, energy (breath), and mind are sufficiently settled, we recite the mantra with clarity. Reciting with clarity means that the mantra, whether spoken audibly or mentally, is heard distinctly, without confusion. The mantra is recited with attention, with full awareness of its meaning, both literal and figurative.

Finally, the mantra is recited with divine pridethe certainty that we are not petitioning a powerful, external being, unsure of his or her responsiveness, but rather invoking an aspect of our higher reality, our own Buddha Nature.
