Prayer for Purification

om Vajrasattva! I rely on Your Vow

To stand by me and sustain me,

To console and to nourish me, to love me unreservedly,

To grant me all attainments, to purify my actions,

And make my mind auspicious.

Sovereign Ruler of the Five Wisdoms, The Blessed Lord,

Truly The One Come Thus, Indivisible, Imperishable Perfection,

Abide in me and grant me Your protection.

Your Vow is ever firm!

om vajrasattva hum

[This is an English translation of the (long) Vajrasattva Mantra, suitable for recitation.]

would it be OK set this up like a standard Ganden sadhana– refuge, bodhicitta, four immeasurables, lineage prayers, recitation (3, 7, 21 or 108 reps) ending with dedication?

    • Tashi Nyima says:

Yes. We usually follow the following order:

      ASPIRATION
May what I’m about to do yield favorable results.
May it give me the capacity to benefit others.
May it help me overcome ignorance and limitation.
May it clear away all obstacles on the path.
May it lead me to the union of wisdom and compassion.
      OM AH HUM SO’HA

      SEVEN BRANCH PRAYER
I take refuge in the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha, and generate Great Purpose for the benefit of all. I confess my transgressions and abandoned commitments, and rejoice in the virtue of holy and ordinary beings. I beseech the Buddhas to remain and turn the Wheel of Dharma, and dedicate all merit to Great Benefit. NAMO GURAVE NAMO BUDDHAYA NAMO DHARMAYA NAMO SANGHAYA (x3)

      KARMA PURIFICATION
OM Vajrasattva! I rely on your vow to stand by me and sustain me; to console and to nourish me; to love me unreservedly; to grant me all attainments; to purify my actions and make my mind auspicious. Sovereign of the four joys, blessed lord, truly the one come thus, indivisible, imperishable perfection, abide in me and grant me your protection. Your vow is ever firm!
      OM VAJRASATTVA HUM (x21)

      REVERENCE TO THE OMNISCIENT DOLPOPA
NAMO GURAVE Reverence to the glorious teacher, quintessence of the three bodies, crown-jewel of the Pure Lineage, leader of sentient beings, revealer of the ultimate path, the Lord of Refuge, the Regent of the Buddha, of peerless kindness, incomparable teacher, Victory Banner of Wisdom of the Great Middle Way. Omniscient Jonangpa, please hear my prayer!

The entire sphere of objects of knowledge is pervaded by a single moment of your wisdom, apprehending whatever exists as existing, and whatever does not exist as not existing. I pray to you, please look upon me with compassion. Please empower me with your blessings. Please grant me the two accomplishments. Please bestow the fruit of the effortless establishment of the two purposes. OM MANI PEME HUM (x3)

CONCISE SUPPLICATION TO THE PURE LINEAGE
Reverence to the glorious Primordial Buddha, basis of all. Reverence to Buddha Essence, ground of non-dual purity. Reverence to Vajra Yoga, the path of purification.

Obeisance to the foremost Holy Supreme Teachers, the Protector Maitreya, the Superior Nagarjuna, the Holy Brothers Asanga and Vasubandhu, the Omniscient Dolpopa, and the Noble Taranatha, and all the gracious holders of the Great Middle Way, who, having thoroughly cleared away immeasurably thick darkness of heart, spread widely the illumination of reality with even subtle portions of the light of their speech. To the feet of the Root Masters, I supplicate! JONANGPA CHENNO (x3)

      MEDITATION

      PRAYER FOR PROTECTION
Merciful Mother, Samaya Tara Yogini, dispeller of fear, grant me your protection! Sustain my practice with your Mighty Forms, that the pure stream of your force may flow within me in this world and the worlds to come.

Protect and sustain the pure Dharma of definitive meaning! Protect and sustain the Great Middle Way! Subdue all hindrances and pacify obstructers!

Make my way straight, that I may swiftly accumulate vast wisdom and compassion and attain the Great Purpose! OM TARE TUTTARE TURE SO’HA (x3)

      DEFINITIVE ASPIRATION
I dedicate the merits of all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, of Solitary Realizers and Disciples, of all holy and ordinary beings, as I dedicate my own —past, present and future, previously dedicated and yet to dedicate— that I may arise spontaneously in the Pure Land of Bliss.

I shall manifest from a golden lotus in the Holy Presence, receive the prophecy from the lips of the Protector, swiftly attain perfect enlightenment, and return to lead all those who suffer to Great Benefit.

By the blessings of the Lord of Compassion and the Lord of Powerful Means, may all sentient beings everywhere hear the Holy Name. May they take refuge in the Lord of Boundless Radiance, and arise in the Pure Land of Bliss! OM AMIDEVA HRIH (x10)

      DEDICATION
By the merit accrued by all my virtuous acts, may all be free from suffering and the causes of suffering. May all embrace happiness and the causes of happiness. May all abide in peace, free from self-grasping. May all attain the union of wisdom and compassion. OM AH HUM SO’HA
