As a disciple of the Buddha, I shall not disparage the Triple Jewel or encourage others to do so. I must not create the causes, conditions, methods, or karma of slander.
If I hear but a single word of slander against the Buddha, the Dharma, or the Sangha from externalists or evil beings, I experience a pain similar to that of three hundred spears piercing my heart. How then could I possibly disparage the Triple Jewel myself? If I lack faith and filial piety towards the Triple Jewel, and assist evil persons or those of aberrant views to slander the Triple Jewel, I commit a major offense.
